List of Textile Fibers

Textile fibers are those which have properties that allow them to be spun into yarn or directly made into fabric. This means they need to be strong enough to hold their shape, flexible enough to be shaped into a fabric or yarn, elastic enough to stretch, and durable enough to last. Textile fibers also have to be a minimum of 5 millimeters in length. Shorter fibers cannot be spun together.

List of Textile Fibers

Textile fibers can be created from many natural sources like animal hair or fur, insect cocoons as with silk worm cocoons, as well as semi synthetic methods that use naturally occurring polymers, and synthetic methods that use polymer-based materials, and even minerals such as metals to make foils and wires. So it can be divided into four groups from where textile fibers can be created -
    1. Animal-based fibers
    2. Plant-based fibers (cellulosic fibers)
    3. Mineral-based fibers
    4. Synthetic fibers
